General figures indicate stark differences between both cross-country and crossparty groups in MEPs' activity. Our attempt to explain this variation accounts for five variables (plus age for control): (1) the background of the MEPs, (2) their political experience, (3) belonging to a European party group, (4) the duration of their mandate, and (5) their status (i.e. elected versus appointed).

European Parliament postponed yesterday the vote on a joint proposal for a resolution on the new media law in Hungary. The decision came after the debate of 16 February, when EU Commissioner on Digital Agenda, Neelie Kroes, informed the MEPs in Strasbourg that Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, promised to change the controversial four articles of the document.

The European Parliament approved by 337 votes to, 245 against and 51 abstentions the resolution initiated by four center-left European political groups (S&D, ALDE, Greens and GUE / NGL). The resolution disapproves the expulsion of Romanian Roma from France.

In no long time will be one year after the last European Parliament elections, an election year which entered the lowest turnout since 1979 (when MEPs began to be directly elected by citizens). Political actors in Brussels, from left to right political spectrum, have long lamented the low turnout that put us in front of a paradox: according to the Treaty of Lisbon, the House has more powers, but at the same time that diminished its legitimacy. In the following we analyze how this situation affects our standards of living and try to propose solutions.

European Institute for Participatory Democracy - Qvorum has released the results of the first research on the political preferences of Internet users in Romania. The poll was conducted by Political Compass test online (www.busolapolitica.ro) which was used by 10,500 people within 10 days of release. Sample result is formed in 97% of people in urban areas with higher education (in progress or completed).
